Our Commitment

San Diego Mortgage Calculator is committed to making this Site accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We believe everyone researching a mortgage in San Diego County should be able to use our calculators, read our guides, and contact a licensed mortgage professional without barriers.

We design and maintain this Site with the goal of conforming to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level. WCAG is the internationally recognized standard developed by the World Wide Web Consortium for making web content more accessible to people with visual, hearing, motor, and cognitive disabilities.

If something isn't working for you

If any page, calculator, or feature on this Site is creating a barrier for you, please contact us using the details in the sidebar. We will work with you directly to provide the information you need in a format that works.

What We Do

To support an accessible experience, we follow these practices throughout the Site:

  • Semantic structure. Pages are built using proper HTML landmarks (header, navigation, main, aside, footer), heading levels, and lists so that screen readers can convey the page outline accurately.
  • Keyboard navigation. All interactive elements (links, buttons, form fields, calculator inputs) are reachable and operable using a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator on focused elements.
  • Color contrast. Text and meaningful graphics meet WCAG AA contrast ratios against their backgrounds. Information is not conveyed by color alone.
  • Resizable text. Content remains readable and usable when text is resized up to 200% in the browser, and when the page is zoomed.
  • Responsive layout. The Site adapts to different screen sizes and orientations, including mobile, tablet, and desktop viewports, without requiring horizontal scrolling on standard pages.
  • Alternative text. Informative images have descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked so they are skipped by assistive technology.
  • Form labels. Calculator and contact form fields have programmatically associated labels and clear instructions. Errors are described in text, not by color alone.
  • Plain language. Our articles aim for clear, plain language. Mortgage jargon is defined the first time it appears in a guide, and a glossary is available.
  • Reduced motion. We avoid auto-playing animations and respect the operating system's "reduced motion" preference where animations are present.

Compatibility

The Site is designed to be compatible with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) on desktop and mobile, and with assistive technologies including screen readers (such as VoiceOver on macOS and iOS, NVDA and JAWS on Windows, and TalkBack on Android), screen magnifiers, voice-recognition software, and operating-system-level high-contrast and zoom features.

If you use an older browser or assistive technology, some features may not work as expected. We recommend updating to the most recent supported version when possible, or contacting us so we can provide the information you need in another format.

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, some portions of the Site may not yet meet WCAG 2.1 AA criteria. Areas we are actively working on include:

  • Improving accessible labeling on a small number of interactive calculator components.
  • Reviewing legacy article content for heading hierarchy and link clarity.
  • Adding text alternatives to a small number of decorative graphics that are currently treated incorrectly by some screen readers.

If you encounter any other barrier, we want to hear about it.

Third-Party Content

The Site may include or link to third-party content, including lender websites, government resources, and reference materials. We do not control the accessibility of those external sites. If you encounter an accessibility issue on a third-party site reached through a link on our Site, please let us know so we can document the issue and look for an alternative resource.

How to Reach Us About Accessibility

We welcome feedback on the accessibility of this Site. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, have a suggestion for improvement, or need information from the Site provided in a different format, contact us using the details in the sidebar. Please include:

  • The page URL or page name where the issue occurred;
  • A short description of the problem;
  • Your browser, operating system, and any assistive technology you were using; and
  • The best way to follow up with you.

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five business days. For requests that require us to provide content in an alternative format, we will work with you to deliver it as quickly as practical.

Formal Complaints

If you are unable to resolve an accessibility issue with us directly, you may file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice under Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act, or with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing under California's accessibility statutes. We hope you will reach out to us first so we can address the issue.

Ongoing Improvement

Accessibility is not a one-time project. We review the Site on an ongoing basis, incorporate accessibility into the design and development of new pages, and update this statement as our practices evolve. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects our most recent review.
